Today's special historical event is the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. On July 27th, 1953, the United States, South Korea, and North Korea signed a military agreement that established a cease-fire along the dividing line of the two countries. This cease-fire officially ended the Korean War, which had started in 1950. In honor of the 70th anniversary, ceremonies have been held around the world both in person and virtually.
The Korean War was a devastating conflict that lasted three years, cost more than four million lives and displaced millions more. It also marked a shift in global power dynamics — for the first time, a small nation like Korea was able to shape international relations and affairs.
