Today is a day to raise awareness of alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes baldness or bald spots, including at times loss of all body hair including eyebrows and eyelashes.There is no cure. However, some people do experience remission, and some people are able to, with treatment, regrow hair in the spots where they lost it - although the condition is not cured, and new bald spots may occur.
People who have alopecia usually develop it when they're children. If there is a child with alopecia in your family or community, honor that child today AND educate others about this condition.
Obviously, children with alopecia need everything that ALL kids need - including protection from bullying and teasing.
